“Everything good about Ireland can be found in County Cork” – Lonely Planet 2012

Visit Cork's world famous english marketIf you only have a week to visit Ireland this year, then you could do a lot worse than base yourself in Cork city.

According to The Lonely Planet Guide for 2012:  “Everything good about Ireland can be found in County Cork” .

It might seem a little smug, but we have to agree…

Cork has that perfect mix of a vibrant, walking friendly  city with great atmospheric pubs; the world-famous English Market; great ping; interesting, winding laneways; mouthwatering restaurants and delis;  theatres; festivals and most importantly – friendly natives!

West Cork will take your breath awayHead out into the surrounding countryside and as well as the well known Cobh (marking 100 years since the Titanic called in 2012) and Blarney Castle; you have beautiful, brightly painted villages and incredible scenery on the Mizen Head and Beara peninsula to rival and even outshine anything the Ring of Kerry has to offer. Kinsale, with all its wonderful history and yummy seafood is only 30 minutes away. Midleton, only 15 kms from the city is the home of Jameson Irish Whiskey.

Phew! There’s a lot to see, that’s for sure!

Don’t just take my word for it; here’s a list of some accolades for Cork in the press:

  • Cork – “one of the 10 European cites you must visit “- Yahoo Travel
  • Cork – “Top 10 city worldwide” – Lonely Planet
  • Cork -European Capital of Culture 2005 – Cork2005.ie
  • Cork – “One of Ireland’s liveliest cities” – The Guardian
  • Cork’s English Market – “One of  the top 10 Food Markets in Europe” – Observer Food Magazine
