A Real Treat for Opera Lovers

A LIVE transmission of Puccini’s Tosca , direct from the stage of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, in Valencia, Spain, will be broadcast free to the public at Fitzgerald’s Park in Cork this evening, Monday June13th 2011, as part of the local Midsummer Festival.

One of Puccini’s best-known operas , Tosca is a tale of love, lust, deceit and murder. Viva Europa 2011 is a transmission of a live performance of Giacomo Puccini’s opera via large screens in public places in more than 40 cities across Europe.

Families are encouraged to attend and people of all ages are welcome at the event in Cork, which is due to get under way at 7pm. Admission from 6pm.

It must be that time of year again as The Cork Midsummer Festival is about to kick off this weekend!

This year’s festival will run from June 11th to the 26th and will feature a broad range of events to suit everyone.

Cork Midsummer Festival will feature everything from live music, street theatre, dance and a whole lot more!

The famous Spiegeltent also makes a welcome return this year, not to mention the fun and frolics of The World Street Performance Championships in Fitzgerald’s Park on Sat 11th and Sunday the 12th of June.

New website launched!

Hi all.

This weekend saw the launch of the new Sheila’s Hostel website!

We’re pretty excited about it and really hope that you like it. It might still be a little rough around the edges but we’re (ie: Paddy is….) working furiously to get it all working properly.

If you find anything that doesn’t work, please email us.

Some of the new features include:

  • A new blog – so we can keep you up to date with all the goings on at the hostel
  • A special offers page – keep an eye out for some great deals!
  • A new directions page. All you need to do is type in your address and you’ll get a printable Google map and directions. you can even enable street-view turn by turn directions!
  • A “What’s On” section – we’ll keep you up to date with what’s going on in the Real Capital.
  • The website is  now available in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch, Japanese and Chinese. At the momwnt the translations are machine-generated, but we’ll work on making them intelligible over the next few weeks.
